Sean Update

Wednesday, June 25, 2008

Sean is now 4 1/2 months old and getting bigger and stronger every day. Now he is wearing size 9-12 month clothing and is as big as some of the older babies in our playgroup! Since Caityn was always so advanced, we were worried that, being a boy, Sean would seem super slow in his development. But so far, he seems to be stronger than Caityn was at the same age. We may have another early walker on our hands.

Yes, this is Sean standing up on his own holding onto his walker.

Last weekend we tried feeding Sean his first solid food. He wasn't quite sure what to make of it. He kept spitting it back out, so either he didn't like the taste of rice cereal or he just doesn't know how to work a spoon yet.

He's also working on how to drink from a sippy cup. I had to return all of our Avent bottles because they contained BPA, so we were left without any bottles. I gave him a sippy cup of water to see what he would do. He prefers to chew on the spout since he is still working on getting that first tooth in. Every once in a while he sucks down a bit of water and it surprises him when the water gets in his mouth.

The little booger is such a difficult child when it comes to putting him down to sleep. We've resorted to putting him in the carseat and rocking or swinging him until he falls asleep. Sometimes it works, but other times he just tries to wiggle himself out of the seat.

Crawling is not too far away!

Caityn Update

Monday, June 23, 2008

Yesterday morning Caityn told me, "I don't want to wear diapers anymore." So we put on her Elmo underpants, and she wore them around the house all day and she peed in the big potty TWICE!! I had to follow her around the house all day making sure she didn't go off into a corner and pee without me knowing. When she went inside her playhouse, I had a feeling she was looking for a private place, so I took her quickly to the bathroom. On the way she told me, "I peed in my underpants little bit." She did, but she stopped herself and finished on the potty! Way to go Caityn!! She had a dry diaper after naptime too, so we put on more underpants until dinner time. Today, we were out at a park, so I didn't want to put her in underwear just yet, but she said she wanted to go pee in the potty. So, she sat on those disgusting park toilets, but didn't go. But at least she is wanting to try now. Woo hoo! I see an end to diapers for her.

Lately, she has also been into photography. Well...taking pictures with my camera at least. Here are some photos she took while sitting on the potty.

Happy Birthday to Me!

Sunday, June 22, 2008

Friday was my 32rd birthday and I celebrated by going out with Abel for dinner without the kids! It was our first "date" in over 2 years. Grandma and Grandpa came over to watch Caityn and Sean. Sean slept most of the time, so I guess they had an easy job. We just walked down to Adams Ave and ate at the Kensington Grill. It was nice to not have to hold a wiggly drooling baby while trying to shovel food in my face and not have to keep saying "sit down and eat your broccoli."

Saturday we celebrated my birthday with the rest of the family. We went to my parents house for dinner and a swim in the pool. It felt so nice to cool off for a while in the pool. Both Caityn and Sean were loving the water.

Later, Grandpa turned on the hose so Caityn could help water the lawn.

Caityn helped me open my presents, and then we had some cake.

The first four months

I thought it would be neat to look back at the photos I took of Caityn when she was the same age as Sean. Here's the first four months for each of them.

My new babysitter

Monday, June 16, 2008

In the morning, when I'm trying to get ready to get out of the house, I sometimes put Sean in his crib and turn on the Snoopy mobile. It usually buys me a few extra minutes before he starts to fuss again. A few times when he has been asleep in the crib, I've heard the mobile music going. Wondering how that got started I went to check on him only to find Caityn in the crib with him turning on the mobile. I didn't want her waking Sean, so I've told her not to climb in the crib anymore.

Well, this morning, Sean was fussing in the crib so Caityn climbed in there again and turned on the mobile. Sean stopped fussing because he was having fun looking at Caityn. And Caityn was having fun just being in the crib. And I was able to get ready while Caityn entertained Sean. My new little babysitter :)

All About Feet

Saturday, June 14, 2008

Sean has recently discovered that he has FEET! He is super obsessed with his feet all of the sudden. Whenever he gets the chance he tries to grab at his feet and if he can he tries to put them into his mouth.

Caityn is now getting into playing dress-up. She loves putting weird things on (which I know is something I used to do too). Here she is playing dress-up in Mommy's shoes. Too cute!

Sean's first swing

Friday, June 13, 2008

Now that Sean is 4 months old, he's going to have lots of baby firsts coming up. Soon he'll have his first solid food feeding, he's almost sitting on his own, and this week he sat in the park swing for the first time. He loved it! I love it too because I don't have to hold him the entire time.

Coronado Concerts

Tuesday, June 10, 2008

We've been meeting some fabulous friends out in Coronado for the summer concert series on Sunday evenings and been having a GREAT time. Last Sunday, Caityn and her friends ran around and danced the entire evening. She was so tired out, it was so nice to go home and have her go to sleep (and stay asleep all night!) without a fuss. Even fussypants Sean got in a good nap and woke up in a happy mood. We really enjoy getting out of the house and listening to some good music and chatting with good friends.
