Say Cheese!

We got Sean and Caityn's pictures back from JC Penney today. Sean's looking super happy in his picures. Caityn was not in a good mood and we were lucky to get the one with my arm in the background. Now she says she'll go back and get her pictures taken again. We'll see...

Bed, Bath, and Best Buds

Tuesday, May 27, 2008

Caityn and Sean are getting along so well. Sean is always watching Caityn play, and he loves to hear the sound of her voice. He smiles whenever he sees her. Caityn is just as much in love with her brother too. She has been such a great big sister. She loves trying to help Mommy change his diaper and give him baths. I have found her a couple of times unbuttoning his clothes and starting to change his diaper on her own!

The other day they both woke up really early (around 6am). One of them must have woken up the other. So I took both of them back to sleep in Caityn's bed. I couldn't sleep any more, but the two of them both fell back asleep and I couldn't resist capturing the moment on camera.

We've also started trying to bathe the two of them together since Sean prefers to be sitting up more in the tub. Caityn was loving pouring water on Sean to bathe him. I had to remind her not to pour the water on his face.

On Memorial Day, we went to the local parade in our neighborhood. Caityn had a blast watching the "show". She loved seeing all the dogs and she even waved to the firemen. She didn't want to go home when it was over. Here they are waiting for the parade to start.

Then and Now

Dana's flashback post got me thinking about old photos of myself when I was Caityn's age. I like to look back and see if I can see any of me in her. Here's photos of me when I was 2 with my new baby sister and Caityn when she was 2 with her new baby brother. Does she look like me at all?

Friends

Yesterday, I took Caityn and Sean down to my mom's house to play with family friend Presley. Although Caityn doesn't see Presley all that often, she really enjoys playing with her. Today all she could talk about was Presley, and she can't wait to play with her again! The girls had fun walking the dogs to the park and even held hands on the way home. Too cute!

Heat Wave

This weekend when it was 90 some degrees outside (and inside too!) we took the kids for a swim at the pool at the condo. Our poor air conditioners were working overtime, so we decided to get out and cool off in the pool. It was Sean's first time in a pool, and he enjoyed it! The only thing he didn't like was that his swim float made him lean back too much. He wanted to be sitting forward more so he could see out.

Last year, Caityn was a little fish, but this year she seemed afraid of the water. She clung to us when we held her in the water, and she preferred sitting at the edge of the pool kicking her feet in the water. I think she just needs to go swimming more often to get used to it again.

Thank goodness for Sesame Street!

Some days I just need to pop in a Sesame Street video to get anything done around the house. Yesterday was one of those days. I had a sink full of dishes I was trying to wash, the sink in the garage was backed up with water, and dinner needed to be started. Sesame Street to the rescue! Both my little couch potatoes had their eyes glued to the screen. I got a good 15 minutes before one of them started fussing.

Teething already!!!

Tuesday, May 20, 2008

I can't believe how fast Sean is growing. He's much bigger than Caityn was at this age. He's only 3 months old, but already about to grow out of his 6 month clothing. We've been calling him Beef!

So Beef has been a wet, drooly, slobbery, mess for several weeks now. We were joking around saying that maybe he was teething already. A few days ago, when he was laughing at me, I saw that first tooth starting to make it's way through his gums. I can't believe it. Teeth at 3 months old! I looked online for anything on early teething. Apparently babies can start teething as early as 3 months, so it's not unheard of. There's an old wives tale that says that early teething in babies is a sign of higher intelligence. Hmmm....

Breakfast with Elmo

Sunday, May 18, 2008

Yesterday we took Caityn and Sean to Seaworld to have breakfast with Elmo, Zoe, Big Bird, Bert, and Ernie. It was a hit! Caityn LOVED it so much and we had so much fun watching her eyes light up when she saw her favorite Sesame Street charachters. We met some of our Fabulous friends there and the girls all had a great time. After breakfast we watched the Big Bird Beach Party show and Caityn loved bopping to the music.

Going Green

Friday, May 16, 2008

We've been trying to step up our efforts to be more environmentally friendly lately. We've switched most of our light bulbs to energy saving bulbs, started using reusable grocery bags, and now use an environmentally friendly laundry detergent. These were easy changes to make, but yesterday I started the biggest change yet...Cloth Diapers!!!

Caityn was very excited to try on her new "green" diaper to match her green shirt, so I put Sean in a green one too. I'm a little nervous about how laundering stinky diapers every other day is going to go, but we're giving it a shot. I feel good knowing that I'm not throwing away a trash bag full of diapers every day. We're also going to save a lot of money by not using the disposable diapers. I'm still learning how to stuff the diapers and put them on the kids. Teaching Abel how to do this should be interesting :)
I found out later that this weird soft focas effect on all my photos I took yesterday was really just a fingerprint on the camera lens ;)

We did it!

Thursday, May 15, 2008

We have successfully moved Sean into Caityn's room so that they now both sleep in the same room at night time. It happened almost accidentally too. The other night, Sean fell asleep earlier than usual, so I just stuck him in the crib thinking he would wake up again for another feeding before going to sleep for the night. But he didn't wake up until after midnight! So I just let him continue to sleep in her (their) room all night. It's been 3 nights so far that they have slept together. Although Sean still wakes up several times a night, Caityn hasn't been bothered by his crying. And he hasn't been bothered by her crying either. Woo hoo! Now I can finally pack away the pack-n-play and actually get to my closet.

Happy Mother's Day!

Monday, May 12, 2008

Mother's Day wasn't much of anything special yesterday. Abel made breakfast and we just hung out around the house. Sean started out in a good mood. He smiled at me first thing in the morning, which felt pretty good, but became his usual fussy self later in the day. Caityn woke up from her nap in good spirits, thank goodness!

On Saturday, we took the kids to JC Penney to get their portraits taken. We were able to get some really cute ones of Sean, who was all smiles, but Caityn freaked out! She refused to let go of me and wouldn't look at the photographer. She cried the WHOLE time, soooooo....no good ones of Caityn and none of them together. Boo! We did manage to get ONE photo taken of Caityn, with tears in her eyes and my arm in the background. Bought it anyways, since we didn't know if we'd ever get another photo of her at age 2. Now, whenever I bust out our camera, she still freaks out and won't even let ME take her picture. Oh the joys of raising a two year old.

I wanted very much to have a picture taken on Mother's Day with both Caityn and Sean, but Caityn refused until late that night, after dinner, we FINALLY got a pretty good one. I still want to go back to JC Penney's to get her pictures taken. Maybe we'll try again in a couple of weeks when she's forgotten about the incident.

Hullabaloo Concert in the park

Monday, May 5, 2008

This weekend we took the kids to see Hullabaloo at the Adams Ave Roots Festival down the street from our house. Hullabaloo is a great local kids band that plays all over San Diego promoting their CD. We met Caityn's little friend Eva there and the two of them had a blast just running around the park dancing to the music. What a great Saturday! Even Sean was in a good mood and enjoyed being outdoors.
