Philosophies of Life: By Caityn

Friday, March 27, 2009

This afternoon, Caityn was rambling on and on about something. I really wasn't sure what she was talking about, but it was just so funny the way she was informing me about her topic. I thought I ought to preserve these funny moments on video so I can remember what she was like when she was two, and also so we can embarrass her later in life.

Silliness

Thursday, March 26, 2009

I was tagged by my friend Tonya to stop everything I was doing and take a photo of myself right then and there and post it to my blog. So, here's my photo. Caityn was standing there right next to me waiting for me to be done on the computer so I could sit and listen to her read Dick and Jane to me. I look like I need to get more sleep! Dick and Jane were certain to put me to sleep. On the plus side, my kid looks cute! Funny thing that happended...the camera died just as I took the picture, so I couldn't even see the photo I took until I recharged the battery. THANKS TONYA....love you for this!

Since Tonya tagged all Erin's, I'm going to tag Kelly and Kelly! Ha ha...you thought you were going to avoid this, didn't you!!

The Return of Captain Danger

Tuesday, March 24, 2009

When we last left our superbaby, he was crushing cheap Ikea tables with his mighty silliness. After that table was demolished, I went back to Ikea and bought a sturdier table and chair set that I intended to have put together in time for Christmas. Well...that never happened. The box remained unopened in our garage for several months. This month, I finally got around to getting that set sanded, painted, and assembled, just in time for Captain Danger's return to action.

Here are the kids enjoying Saturday morning breakfast at their new little table. Looks pretty innocent, doesn't it?
And here is Captain Danger testing out the table's strength while munching on lunch.

And a little table dancing after dinner.

His adventures this week don't end there. Last night while getting his bath, the little guy's soapy hand slipped and he hit his chin on the side of the tub. There was some bleeding, but nothing a little Care Bear bandaid couldn't fix. Then this morning, his bad mommy forgot to put socks on his feet the night before, and he stepped onto the floor heater, fell down and burned both feet and the side of one leg. The crying lasted for well over an hour. Poor thing!

I foresee a trip to the emergency room in the near future!

Spaghetti and a Pool Party

Wednesday, March 18, 2009

Today I bought the kids a little kiddy pool to splash around in since the weather has been pretty warm outside. Since I was planning on having them play in the water after lunch, I decided why not let Sean go at it with some spaghetti. He'd be getting clean out in the pool anyway.

Who needs a fork to eat spaghetti when you've got hands?

Whee!

They didn't seem to mind that the water was freezing. They had the best time going back and forth from one pool to the other.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

St. Patrick's Day 1983?

I'm not too excited about the hugs I'm getting from my sisters, because, if I remember correctly, they had the chicken pox! Even though I had it first, and no doubt gave it to them, I think I was still grossed out by getting touched by the infected.

St. Patrick's Day 2009

On Saturday, we took the kids to the annual St. Patrick's Day parade in San Diego. Caityn had a blast with the ribbon wand I got for her. And Sean thought running in the street before the parade started was just the best! Definitely a tradition we'll be keeping.

Sean's First Haircut

Monday, March 16, 2009

Yesterday afternoon Abel finally caved in and allowed me to cut Sean's baby locks. It was starting to look like a baby mullet, so it was time. It was not the best haircut in the world, but still looks cute. It's pretty hard to trim a baby's hair when he keeps turning around whenever the hairclippers touch his head. I was going to trim around his ears with the scissors, but he kept grabbing for them, so I didn't really get a chance to finish the haircut yet. Here's the before and after photos.

The front view: Before
The front view: After
Ha ha!! It doesn't even look like I cut his hair from the front view. Really, I cut quite a bit from his little head, but it was all from the back and sides. Here's another view where you can really see the difference.

The side view: Before

The back view: Before
The back view: After

He looks like such a little boy now and not so much like a baby! I figure I've got quite a few more years ahead of me to perfect this hair cutting thing.

Yes, these are the lyrics to "It's a Small World." We've been back from our 1 1/2 day trip to Disneyland for a few days now, and I still can't get that song out of my head. I think it's safe to say that the It's a Small World ride was Caityn's favorite. We went on it three times during our trip. In fact, it was the only ride we went on more than once, because there was never a line to get on.

Our second trip to Disneyland was pretty successful. We stayed only one night, which worked out well because we got to check in early and have the room for naptime and bedtime. The kids were really well behaved, and the only meltdown occurred at about 7:30pm that first night. They were just exhausted and wanted to go back to the hotel. I don't blame them. We stayed out pretty late.

Caityn was in heaven wearing her Snow White dress and having all the ride attendants call her "princess." She also liked pointing out all the other girls wearing princess dresses. "Look, she has a Sweeping Booty dress!" We got to check out a few attractions that I don't ever remembering visisting, like the Mark Twain river boat and Tom Sawyer's island. Both were a hit with the kids, although Caityn was terrified of the dark, spooky caves on the island. And, yes, Sean DID fall asleep on the train.

After the Dumbo ride. Sean didn't freak out this time. Three months ago, Caityn didn't even know who Dumbo was. Now every elephant we see is named Dumbo.
Sean, still not too crazy about Merry-go-rounds.
Caityn very excited to be riding the Merry-go-round.
Caityn loved this little stage on the river boat. Both of them were running around, up and down the stairs the whole ride.

The only family photo we got on this trip.
Sitting in traffic on the autotopia ride.
I love this photo. I love her look of awe as we pass through It's a Small World.
Sean eating his first apple. He did a pretty good job!

Snacking on the dock of Tom Sawyer's island.
Inside on of the not-so-dark-and-scary caves.
Passed out on the way home, Disney treats in hand.

Simple Pleasures

The other day after his bath, I let Sean turn off the light switch in the bathroom. He thought this was just hilarious! But I think I've created a monster. Now he wants to turn off ALL the light switches in the house, whether the light is on or not. He's been throwing fits now if I don't let him turn off the lights over and over and over again. Oh well...it was cute the first time.

Monsters in a mushroom patch

That's what this is, in case you were wondering.
I love how Legos bring out the creativity in Caityn.
Thank you, Aunt Breean for SEAN'S birthday gift!!

Another visit to the dentist

Tuesday, March 3, 2009

Today Caityn had her second visit with the dentist. If you recall my post from her first visit, things didn't go so well the first time we visited. But today, she did AWESOME!!! Of course, it probably helped that the first thing they asked her was, "Do you like Dora?" She was super excited to watch a Dora video while the lady cleaned her teeth. She opened and closed her mouth as instructed, and she didn't cry once! Even more surprising, Sean behaved as well!!! I though for sure that he would start throwing a temper tantrum or scream and run all over the place. But I guess the Dora video captured his attention too. And we are proud to announce that Caityn does not have any cavities.

Fabulous Weekend!

Sunday, March 1, 2009

Our fabulous weekend started on Friday, when we met some friends at the park to catch up and let the little ones run around. Caityn and Eva had a great time! They always play so nicely together, and Sean even found a friend in little Greta. Despite running to and from the park, not to mention running around the park for 2 hours, Caityn STILL did NOT take a nap that day. Ugh! I think we may be seeing the last of naps.

Caityn gave her friends a ride in the wagon.
Sean was loving Greta's beautiful hair.

Saturday morning, the weather was so nice. We decided to head over to Coronado for some fresh air. We rented one of those bikes the whole family can ride in. The kids loved it! Caityn would ring the bell each time we passed someone, and both kids were having fun waving to other people riding bikes. The views were gorgeous!

Hugs for little brother.

After the bike ride, we stopped for lunch at a pizzeria, where we bumped into some friends who live in Coronado. The wait for the pizza was too much for Sean. He must have been hungry because he started throwing one of his famous temper tantrums. I had to take him out and walk him around the shopping area until the food was ready. Just as we were leaving to go home, we passed by some people feeding pigeons. Both kids immediately started running after the birds and chasing them around the grass. The pigeons were not too afraid of them. They just kept walking out of their way, but were not going to fly away because they were still getting fed! Such a fun day, but Caityn STILL did not nap. Later that night we headed down to my mom's house to celebrate my sister's 30th birthday. Caityn fell asleep in the car when we just got there.

Sunday morning, the weather was still great, so we headed down to the beach. Sean enjoyed relaxing in this beach chair, while Caityn got down and dirty in the sand. Of course, Sean also had to taste a few handfuls of sand. After lunch, we walked down to the little park. Caityn rode her tricycle all the way there and back! I finally found something that will wear her out. She DID take a nap on Sunday.

Caityn was so proud of herself for learning how to finally ride her tricycle. The whole way up to the park she kept shouting, "I'm doing it! I'm doing it! I'm going super fast!!" and "The other kids on bikes better watch out, because I'm going soooooo fast!"
