Captain Danger!

Sunday, November 23, 2008

Man...boys sure are different than girls! Sean is learning how to climb and get onto chairs, but he doesn't really know how to get down yet.

Captain Danger throws his head back to see if Mommy freaks out. Notice the table behind him is still intact.

Next, he stands up and sees what happens if he rocks the chair back and forth.

Well...this is how his adventure ends.

This is not the first this that has been damaged or broken since Sean came into the scene. Stay tuned for Captain Danger's next big adventure.

Ugh...I have that little song from Go Diego Go! in my head along with tons of other little songs. We watch way too much Dora and Diego these days. But here are the latest photos taken of my little couch potatoes. I'm excited I finally got photos of them together, and now Caityn has decided that she LIKES having her pictures taken.

Friday Flashback

As I start planning for our first trip to Disneyland with the kids in January, I'm remembering the last time I was there. It was December 2004 when my sisters and I had the rare opportunity to dine at the famous Club 33 in New Orleans Square. I didn't realize at the time what a special treat it was. I wish I had taken better pictures, but here is a glimpse into the exclusive restaurant if you've never had the chance to see it from the inside.

The unmarked door next to the Blue Bayou is the entrance. You ring a little doorbell and tell them your reservation name.

The last time I was at Disneyland I was so sick of the crowds and the heat (it was December!) that I swore I wouldn't go back until I had kids of my own. Well now that I DO have kids, I'm getting kind of excited to go back with them. Hopefully it won't be too crowded this time.

Tuesday Tow day

Tuesday, November 18, 2008

Coming home from my mom's house this afternoon I hit the curb on a weird slow-down turn thing in the middle of the road. (If you've driven down Corral Canyon you know what I'm talking about.) Instantly, I knew something was wrong with my tires. I pulled over to the side of the road to have a look, and for some reason, I only looked at the back tire. It looked all bent out of shape, but not flat. Luckily, I was only about 5 minutes from my mom's house, so she came down to help me watch the kids while I called for a tow truck. It wasn't until I got out of the car for a second time that I looked at the front tire and saw the horrible damage to the tire. I don't know I did this. I've driven through the curve zillions of times before. It may have been the over tired 2 year old complaining about her sticky fingers that distracted me from slowing down enough to make it through.

Thank goodness for the iPhone I was able to look up a towing company to come and change my flat tire. Yes, I do not know how to change a tire, and even if I did, I would still call someone to do it for me. That looks like a dirty, sweaty man job. I made it home on the spare, and now tomorrow I've got to go and get a new tire. Fun times :)

Sean found a toy car in Grandma's car to keep him busy.
Caityn didn't seem to mind missing her nap.

Weekend Recap

Sunday, November 16, 2008

  • Friday took the kids to JC Penney for Sean's 9 month photos. Caityn cooperated this time for photos of her and some with her and Sean. Yay!
  • Caityn earns her Tinkerbell video for not crying when going to sleep. Yippee!! DVD doesn't work in the DVD player. Huh?? Sorry kiddo :(
  • Sushi for dinner Friday night. Yum!
  • Saturday morning...the poop incident...all over the baby...all over the crib. Sean will always wear pants when going to bed from now on.
  • More photos taken by our fabulous friend Amber and the kids cooperate. Can't wait to see how they turned out!
  • Caityn comes down with a cold, coughs so hard she pukes in bed...Boo!...in my bed...Double BOO!...I'm at Target so Abel cleans it up...Hee hee!
  • Long night...Caityn hacking and coughing and crying all night long. But Sean almost slept through the night...7pm-4am...a record for him. We all wake up sleeping in someone else's bed.
  • Sean wakes up with a huge scratch across his face and a rash near his mouth. Good thing we already took our pictures.
  • Caityn FINALLY learns how to make an "L" sound, and we practice saying some "L" words. Thank you Sesame Street for making "L" the letter of the day.
  • Sunday afternoon...2:30pm...and I'm still in my pajamas.
  • Sean signs his first sign back to me! More...he wants more of my yogurt.
  • Last night was a better night. Caityn is sounding much better, but we're keeping her home from school today to let this cold pass.

"It's all over his face!"

This video makes me laugh! I can't believe I let him get this messy. It's not usually like me to allow my kids to make a mess while I sit back and watch. But it was keeping him quiet during dinner so I could enjoy my meal in peace.

7 Secrets

Monday, November 10, 2008

I have been tagged by my friend Ashley to tell 7 secrets about myself. Let's see...

1. I miss having a best friend.

2. Even though I love him dearly, I still sometimes wish that Sean had been born a girl.

3. Sometimes cleaning the house is just shoving all the clutter into a closet or cupboard.

4. I am very much afraid of heights.

5. I like hearing the sounds of the city when I'm sleeping, like the freeway noise and sirens and helicopters. It makes me feel safe, like help is close by in case of an emergency.

6. I bite the skin around my fingernails, but not my fingernails.

7. I still watch Full House.

I pass this onto my friends Jane, Nat, Jenn, Janis, and anyone else who hasn't been tagged yet. You're it!

Weekend Excitement

Aquarium Adventures

Saturday we took the kids to the Scripps Birch Aquarium. Caityn has been there several times already, but this was Sean's first time. He was mesmerized by all the fish swimming in the tanks. Caityn wasn't on her best behavior that day, so she didn't get anything from the gift shop, even though we were all set to buy her something. Two and a half is a tough age!

Sean loves the fish!
Say "Cheese!"
Checking out the starfish and lobster
What a beautiful day!
Can I get one of these for at home?
Who's your new friend Sean?
Counting Caityns
Fort Fun

Later that night, when Abel was making a mega trip to Vons, I stayed home and made a super cool fort for the kids to play in until bedtime. Caityn was supposed to go with Abel, but her naughty behavior that day meant she didn't earn that special trip. I think she had more fun playing in the fort anyway :)

Sean tastes the fort to make sure it's okay
"Hey, Caityn, where are you?"
"Here my am!"
Peekaboo!

Are you ready for this?

Saturday, November 8, 2008

So not as early as his older sister, but already showing signs of being a full-on walker before he reaches 1 year, and he's not even 9 months old yet (tomorrow!). Two nights ago, on his own, Sean let go of what he was holding on to and started walking towards us. Then yesterday, he let go of the sofa and started heading away from me towards his toys. He didn't get too far before reaching for the floor, but getting farther and farther each day. Today, he was able to walk about 10 steps on his own, catching his balance before falling down.
