Nighty-night!

Sunday, May 24, 2009

Last night I thought I'd be sneaky and try to get two very tired kids to bed slightly earlier than usual. Well...it wasn't going to happen. Sean was still in his bed crying when it was time for Caityn to go to bed, so I took both of them and laid down in Caityn's bed. Sean then fell asleep in a couple of minutes, and Caityn followed soon after him. They have played together in the bed, snuggling and pretending to sleep, but this was the first time they had actually both been asleep in the same bed. Too cute! I let them stay in bed together until I heard a whine. I went in to check on them and Caityn had rotated herself 90 degrees and Sean was 180 degrees the opposite direction. Hmmm...maybe we won't need to get bunk beds after all!

Mother's Day

Monday, May 11, 2009

We celebrated Mother's Day yesterday with a morning trip to the zoo. We forgot that Caityn was now three, so we had to "sneak" her in. No one asked her age or anything, but I felt really guilty. I gotta get her a pass before we go back again!! Later that afternoon we went to my sister's house for a BBQ with the rest of the family.

Here's a look back at all my mother's days!

2006 - Forgot to get a picture with Caityn and myself! We both napped that day!!

2007 - Caityn still had the bandage from her recent surgery to remove the cyst from her head.

2008 - Sean's first Mother's Day. What a grumpy baby!

2009 - Everyone looks pretty happy this year!

Don't you dare take a nap!

Wednesday, May 6, 2009

For the last couple of months, Caityn has been refusing to take a nap. It certainly makes for a very long day, but then she goes to bed much much earlier, which means I get some time to myself in the evening. Instead of a nap, I try to get her to take a "rest", which usually just consists of her watching TV while Sean naps and I clean the house.

Today I tried for 2 hours to get her to "rest", but she was just all over the place. Finally, while we were both sitting on the couch, I just said to her,

"Caity, I don't want you to lie down. Don't you close your eyes. No resting allowed."

She looked at me kind of funny, but then I left to go do some dishes while she watched cartoons. Here is what I found when I was done with the dishes.

Go reverse psychology!!

Flower Fields

Saturday, May 2, 2009

Thursday morning we headed up to the Carlsbad Flower Fields with some friends to frolic amonst the ranunculus. The weather was just gorgeous...and the flowers were pretty too! Here are some of my favorite shots from our day.

Curious Sean, curious little monkey!

It all started with this:

And now, we have this,

this,
this,
and this!

Nothing is safe anymore! Not even the little monkey!!

Hullabaloo and Preschool too!

Saturday, April 25, 2009

Today we took the kids to see Hullabaloo at the Adams Ave Roots Festival. The weather was just perfect for an outdoor concert, and we got super lucky and found parking right near the stage just as we pulled up. I think only my tiny car would have fit in this spot anyway! We met up with some fabulous friends for an afternoon of singing and dancing.

Last Wednesday, Caityn's preschool held an open house. The parents and siblings got to check out her classroom and see all the artwork on the walls. My little smarty pants was the only kid in the 2's class who could write her own name!! Her teachers are super impressed!

Caityn had to dress as a princess for the event since she isn't normally allowed to wear her crown to school. Sean is SO ready for preschool already too!
I was more impressed with her name written on her paper than with the actual artwork.

Chicken Dancers

Friday, April 24, 2009

Yesterday we played with some fabulous friends, and Caityn and Allie found a very fun duck that sang and danced the "chicken dance." They were performing their number over and over, until all the kids finally joined in. Fun morning! Still can't get that song out of my head!!
