Friday Flashback

Friday, June 5, 2009

A few weeks ago we had a garage sale, and I dug out one of the old preemie sized dresses that Caityn wore when she was itty-bitty. I thought she might like to have it for her baby dolls, so here she is wearing it at 2 weeks old.

And here is her Bitty Baby wearing it today! I can't believe my baby was ever that small!!

Memorial Day 2009

Every year since we bought our house, we've attended the neighborhood Memorial Day parade. It's a pretty low-key parade, consisting mostly of local school kids, a few dog clubs, and several politicians. And every year, I've seen the little preschool kids march in the parade waving the flags, all dressed up in red, white, and blue. This year was the first time MY preschooler got to march in the parade too!

The theme of the parade this year was Water Conservation, hence the large rain-drop hat. The original hat that she made in preschool fell in the toilet, so this was a replica. No one noticed.

Nighty-night!

Sunday, May 24, 2009

Last night I thought I'd be sneaky and try to get two very tired kids to bed slightly earlier than usual. Well...it wasn't going to happen. Sean was still in his bed crying when it was time for Caityn to go to bed, so I took both of them and laid down in Caityn's bed. Sean then fell asleep in a couple of minutes, and Caityn followed soon after him. They have played together in the bed, snuggling and pretending to sleep, but this was the first time they had actually both been asleep in the same bed. Too cute! I let them stay in bed together until I heard a whine. I went in to check on them and Caityn had rotated herself 90 degrees and Sean was 180 degrees the opposite direction. Hmmm...maybe we won't need to get bunk beds after all!

Mother's Day

Monday, May 11, 2009

We celebrated Mother's Day yesterday with a morning trip to the zoo. We forgot that Caityn was now three, so we had to "sneak" her in. No one asked her age or anything, but I felt really guilty. I gotta get her a pass before we go back again!! Later that afternoon we went to my sister's house for a BBQ with the rest of the family.

Here's a look back at all my mother's days!

2006 - Forgot to get a picture with Caityn and myself! We both napped that day!!

2007 - Caityn still had the bandage from her recent surgery to remove the cyst from her head.

2008 - Sean's first Mother's Day. What a grumpy baby!

2009 - Everyone looks pretty happy this year!

Don't you dare take a nap!

Wednesday, May 6, 2009

For the last couple of months, Caityn has been refusing to take a nap. It certainly makes for a very long day, but then she goes to bed much much earlier, which means I get some time to myself in the evening. Instead of a nap, I try to get her to take a "rest", which usually just consists of her watching TV while Sean naps and I clean the house.

Today I tried for 2 hours to get her to "rest", but she was just all over the place. Finally, while we were both sitting on the couch, I just said to her,

"Caity, I don't want you to lie down. Don't you close your eyes. No resting allowed."

She looked at me kind of funny, but then I left to go do some dishes while she watched cartoons. Here is what I found when I was done with the dishes.

Flower Fields

Saturday, May 2, 2009

Thursday morning we headed up to the Carlsbad Flower Fields with some friends to frolic amonst the ranunculus. The weather was just gorgeous...and the flowers were pretty too! Here are some of my favorite shots from our day.
